David Haye and Dereck Chisora in Munich press conference brawl

David Haye and Dereck Chisora were involved in a shock brawl at the post-fight press conference of Chisora's world title defeat to WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko, causing police to launch an official investigation into the incident.

Former world heavyweight champion Haye was present in Munich to commentate on Klitschko's latest title defence and the two British fighters became involved in a war of words when Chisora attempted to goad Haye into fighting him, criticising the Briton's own title defeat to Wladimir Klitschko last July.

Chisora then left the stage to confront Haye whereupon the brawl, reported to have lasted at least five minutes, erupted in front of a shocked crowd. The incident is the latest in a series of controversial, high-profile incidents involving Chisora, who also slapped Vitali at Friday's weigh-in and spat water in the face of Wladimir Klitschko in the fight's build-up.

During the melee, Chisora was seen holding a bottle while Haye's trainer, Adam Booth, emerged with a cut forehead and claimed to have been "glassed".

Chisora and trainer Don Charles were detained at Munich Airport by police who confirmed their search for Haye goes on after he could not be found at his hotel.

"Police picked up Mr Chisora at the airport at approximately 10.30am [German time] and are bringing him in for the investigation," a police spokesman confirmed.

"They also picked up Mr Chisora's trainer for questioning.

"The police went to the hotel to speak to them but we had been informed they had just checked out.

"At present we do not know where Mr Haye is.

"We are currently looking for him. He was not at the hotel this morning and we have not seen him at the airport."

Wladimir Klitschko, who watched the fight unfold, said: "I'm totally disappointed, it went a little too far, the sport of boxing shouldn't be like that.

"Bloody faces in the press conference... fighting in the ring, not out. I'm really surprised."
